Experience the many ways you can make time in nature with your kids fun through immersive games! Recommended Ages: Adults First Aid Trail Plants What plant cures the pain of a bee sting? Prevents an itchy, poison ivy ratch? Stops bleeding from a cut? Wander the fields and learn identification and uses of wild first aid plants such as plantain, jewelweed, and yarrow. Recommended Ages: Adults Fireflies Light Up the Sky This program is for youth (6-12) with an adult. Adults must register and participate in the program. The firework shows may be ending, but nature provides its very own light show. Join us for this special evening program where we will explore the cool qualities of these critters. Recommended Ages: Adults Monarch Butterflies This program is for youth (6-12) to participate in with adults. Adults must register and participate in the program. Learn about the Monarch butterfly, its habitat, its life cycle, and its amazing annual migration. Now an endangered species, find out what you can do to help Monarchs in your own backyard and visit our pollinator field to look for signs of all of the Monarch’s life stages. We will cover the basics of soapmaking, and each participant will take home about 10 bars of seasonally scented soap to enjoy. Recommended Ages: Adults Fermented Foods to Make Your Taste buds Tingle How can you preserve your garden’s abundance and give a boost to your gut health? Try fermentation! Sample and learn how to make delicious fermented veggies that will delight your taste buds and add variety to your autumn table. Recommended Ages: Adults Wild Mushroom Walk: Beginner The New Hampshire Mushroom Company will guide you along our trails on a search for wild mushrooms. Collect, identify, and learn the distinguishing features of different species. Great for those that are interested in foraging but want reassurance as you get started. Admission to the public is free! Recommended Ages: Multigenerational Insects and Arthropods This program is for youth (6-12) with an adult. Adults must register and participate in the program. Laying in wait on the goldenrods, eating poisonous leaves, and jumping through the leaves on the forest floor, arthropods are active in the forests and meadows. Join a naturalist to take a closer look and see what they’re up to. Recommended Ages: Youth + Adult Beeswax Candles Beeswax becomes abundant in the fall after the honey harvest and just as the daylight is receding, now is the perfect time to make beeswax candles. Enjoy the sweet aroma of natural beeswax as you make your own beeswax votives and rolled candles to enjoy at home or give as gifts! Recommended Ages: Youth + Adult Saturn Saturn and its rings are easiest to see this time of year. Join us indoors for a short introduction to this fascinating planet and then head outside to look at the real thing. Recommended Ages: Adults Raptors Raptors are aerial hunters that soar, glide, and swoop. Learn about their adaptations and behavior. Practice identifying and go on a “Hawk Watch” looking for migrating birds. Finally learn simple ways we can conserve and protect these amazing birds of prey.
