Use grape vines to form a base, and personalize your wreath with flowers, herbs, and other foraged, natural decorations. Join us for an outdoor walk to some of Belknap County’s “Champion Big Trees” as well as other huge, old trees and hear some fascinating fun facts about ecology, history, and how trees have adapted to New Hampshire’s climate. Whether you are new to mushrooms, have read a book or two, or are an experienced forager, you will leave with new knowledge and insights. Recommended Ages: Adults Orionid Meteor Shower Bring a blanket and turn your eyes to the sky as we watch for meteors on the night of the Orionids Meteor Shower. We’ll find out what causes ‘shooting stars’ and make models of what happens when a meteor makes it through the atmosphere. Too cloudy? No worries! We’ll gather inside for a tour of the winter night sky. Recommended Ages: Adults Fall Tree & Shrub ID Color abounds and leaves are falling. Join us as we amble through the woods, identify trees and shrubs, and learn more about the science behind falling leaves. Recommended Ages: Adults Autumn-Inspired Paper Quilling Paper Quilling is the art of turning small strips of colorful paper into decorative designs. Participants will learn to roll, shape, and glue paper into an autumn-inspired design Recommended Ages: Adults Colorful Soap Learn how to safely make your very own soap using the cold process. We will cover the basics of soapmaking using the cold process which results in a smoother finish using natural materials to add colors to the soaps. Each participant will take home about 10 bars of seasonally scented soap to enjoy after curing. Join Larry Frates, Prescott Farm’s Creative Arts Consultant, as he demystifies this process and teaches you how to do it from home. Recommended Ages: Adults Holiday Pies: Two Part Series Please note: There is a single registration for both parts of this pie-making series. Program dates and times are: Part 1: Saturday, November 11 from 10 am – 12pm Description: Homemade pies reminiscent of grandma’s start with fresh, seasonal ingredients and are baked from scratch. In Part I of this two part class, learn how to make your own pie crust. In Part 2, join us to learn the secrets of fruit and custard-filled pies. Bring your pies home to enjoy or freeze them to share during the upcoming holidays! Recommended Ages: Adults Felted Soap Join us as we encase bars of soap with decorative felted wool packages that you can keep for yourself or give as gifts. The felted wool conserves the soap and makes a nice lather. In this class participants will felt three to four bars of soap brought from home using colorful wool to make their own designs. Recommended Ages: Adults Bayberry Candles The fruit of the bayberry shrub has been used to make the pleasant smelling candles that are synonymous with the holiday season since Colonial times. Learn more about this native shrub and make your very own tapered bayberry candles. Recommended Ages: Adults Holiday Workshop for Kids! Let your children learn the joy of gift giving with this unique opportunity to make nature-inspired gifts for the adults in their lives. Participants will be offered several options and will select which gift they want to make. We’ll provide the materials and instruction while they add their own unique flair! This is a drop-off program (adults must sign children in and out) so the hardest part for grown-ups will be waiting to open the gift. No Peeking! Recommended Ages: Youth 6-12 Holiday Yeast Breads The flavors of the holidays shine in seasonal sweetbreads.
