Learning and growing in nature is fun for the whole family! From the Our Big Backyard series where adults and children ages 7-11 explore the wonders of nature during every month of the year to our seasonal Polliwogs program designed to introduce children ages 2 1/2 – 5 to nature through hands-on fun with a favorite grown-up, Prescott Farm offers a full array of hands-on experiential programs for all ages. Join us and reconnect to the people and places that matter most to you!

Our Big Backyard Series [FAMILIES]
$8 per person (FREE for Upgraded Members) Adult must accompany child. 

There is always something exciting to discover on our treks around Prescott Farm!  Age 7+ with an adult. Light activity.

  • Creepy Crawly Myth Busters!
    Saturday, October 19, 2019; 10:00-11:30
    Bats, spiders and other so-called “creepy crawlies” often get a bad rap, but did you know that these critters all play a vital role in our ecosystem? Come discover more about them and hopefully change your view of them from “foe” to “friend!”
  • Fly Away or Stay?
    Saturday, November 2, 2019; 10:00-11:30
    There’s a chill in the air and animals are busy getting ready for winter. Who sticks around, who sleeps through, and who heads south for a sunny vacation? We’ll explore all the options!
  • Gifts of the Night Tree
    Saturday, December 14, 2019; 10:00-11:30
    Share the holiday spirit with our friends in nature! We’ll read the classic story The Night Tree, make treats for our furry and feathered friends, then venture into the woods to decorate our own “Night Tree.”


Fall Polliwogs Program [Families]
$12/adult-child pair +$6/additional person (FREE for Members!) Adult must accompany child. Wednesdays thru October 23. For ages 2 1/2 – 5. You may choose to register for individual dates or the entire series!

A fun group for the littlest explorers amongst us!  Join us and bring along your favorite grown-up to explore the forests, fields and gardens around Prescott Farm. Fall is a busy time as animals prepare for winter, and these sessions are designed to keep children busy and engaged as well. Polliwogs will be offered rain or shine! If it is raining, we will have our activities in the barn.

    • Harvest Hayride
      Wednesday, Oct. 9; 10:30 – 12
      All aboard for a hayride around Prescott Farm. We’ll look for signs of fall, enjoy a fall-themed story, and explore along the way.
    • Pumpkins
      Wednesday, Oct. 16; 10:30 – 12
      We’ll read a story about pumpkins, learn about different kinds pumpkins and do a pumpkin activity.
    • Spider Quest
      Wednesday, Oct. 23; 10:30 – 12
      Let’s do a treasure hunt and learn about spiders along the way. We’ll work together to finish the quest and find a treat.

Season of Light: DIY Upcycled Lanterns [Families]
Saturday, November 23; 10 – 12 pm
$8/person (FREE for Members!) Min. 2 per party (Adult must accompany child)

As we approach the longest night of the year, join us to make your own lantern out of natural and upcycled materials including branches and tissue paper or metal cans. Then be sure to bring your lantern to our lantern parade at Winter Solstice Celebration on December 21.


Nature-Inspired Holiday Ornaments [Families]
Saturday, December 14; 1-3 pm
$8/person (FREE for Members!) Min 2. per party (Adult must accompany child)

What better gift to give than one you can assemble with materials found in forests and fields? Learn to make a variety of cute and decorative ornaments from nature!


Winter Solstice Celebration
Saturday, Dec. 21; 3-5 pm

Celebrate the Winter Solstice – the shortest day of the year – with fun activities to welcome back the light! Events include sledding (if there is snow!) warm beverages around a bonfire and a lantern lighting. Bring your own lantern or come build one with us at lantern-building workshops the Saturday before the event. Stay tuned for more information!
