Join us and reconnect to the people and places that matter most to you!

Our Big Backyard Series [FAMILIES]
$8 per person (FREE for Upgraded Members*) Minimum 2 participants per party

There is always something exciting to discover on our treks around Prescott Farm!  For ages 7-11, with an adult. Light activity.  See below for individual program descriptions.

Program Descriptions:

  • Amazing Vernal Pools
    Saturday, April 27; 10 – 11:30 a.m.
A vernal pool habitat is critical for certain species of salamanders and frogs, but they are often overlooked. We’ll visit a couple that we have at Prescott Farm and search for eggs of these mysterious creatures.
  • The Forest in Bloom
    Saturday, May 25; 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Our gardens are coming to life again and a treasure trove of lesser-known wildflowers are also popping up in the woods. Join us to discover these beautiful wonders of spring!
  • Spring at the Pond
    Saturday, June 22; 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Spring is in full swing and the pond is alive with all kinds of critters! There are the big ones you’d expect—turtles, frogs, ducks—but there is also a whole hidden world of tiny creatures that live in the water. Let’s see what we can find!

Spring Polliwogs Program [Families]

6 Wednesdays beginning May 1 // 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
$6 per person ($5 Members; FREE for Upgraded Members!) * Minimum 1 adult & 1 child per party *

A fun group for the littlest explorers among us! Join us and bring along your favorite grown-up to explore the forests, fields and gardens around Prescott Farm. Spring is a busy time as animals come out from winter, and these sessions are designed to keep children busy and engaged. You may choose to register for individual dates or the entire series!

    • Bright New Beginnings
      Wednesday, May 1; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
Deer fawn, fox kits, bear cubs, and many young mammals are seeing the world for the first time. What are they seeing? Search for signs of spring, just like a fawn, kit, or cub, while we explore Prescott Farm.
    • Forest Floor
      Wednesday, May 8; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
The soft, spongy forest floor is home to salamanders, worms, and many other critters. Join us to explore this rich part of the ecosystem, and go home with your very own terrarium that will mimic the layers where plants and animals thrive.
    • Bumbling Bees
      Wednesday, May 15; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
As flowers bloom throughout the spring, pollinators are hard at work. We will learn all about bees, birds, and other pollinators and the flowers they visit.
    • The Terrific Turtle
      Wednesday, May 22; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
Meet everyone’s favorite three-toed box turtle—Bucky! The warmer months mean she can spend time outside basking in the sun. Our friendly and curious resident reptile will love the updates we make to her “summer home” while learning about her natural habitat.
    • Birds are Back!
      Wednesday, May 28; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
Blue birds, tree swallows, robins, and warblers have returned to our backyards. Pick up a pair of binoculars to look for nests, eggs, and other signs of our feathered friends.
    • Out to the Pond
      Wednesday, June 5; 10:30 – 12 p.m.
Come take a hike to the pond! We will grab ponding nets and look for the critters big and small that call this shallow water home. Note: please wear shoes you do not mind getting mucky.
