Come ahead of time to act out how eclipses happen, view the Sun through a solar filter, and make a pinhole projector to safely observe the eclipse. After making the pasta dough, we will turn it into a cheese-filled ravioli and ribbon-style noodles. Finally we will top it off with a homemade garden-inspired pesto. Recommended Ages: Multigenerational Crafts Paper sculpture is a form of art that involves creating three dimensional objects out of paper. In this workshop you will learn that the process allows you to create a wide range of shapes, from simple geometrical forms to complex and intricate designs. The various techniques of folding, cutting and gluing will be demonstrated and you will be able to create your very own. Recommended Ages: Adults Gardening Get ready for the coming gardening season by starting your own seedlings at home. This workshop will focus on indoor sowing techniques, including timing, light requirements, successful germination, and tips for transplanting your seedlings out into your garden. Workshop participants will practice sowing and transplanting seedlings to take home for spring plantings. Recommended Ages: Adults Crafts Join us as we encase bars of soap with decorative felted wool packages that you can keep for yourself or give as gifts. The felted wool conserves the soap and makes a nice lather. In this class participants will felt three to four bars of soap brought from home using colorful wool to make their own designs. We’ll begin indoors to learn about the springtime habits of the frogs we are most likely to hear. Then, we’ll hike out to our wetland areas to see if we can identify which frogs are at Prescott Farm. No prior experience frogging by ear is necessary. Recommended Ages: Multigenerational Cooking Get ready for a fun, gluten-free Earth Day celebration! Learn how to make edible and adorable cupcakes that look like little plants growing in terracotta pots. You will bake 8 gluten-free cupcakes in terracotta pots, make a dairy free or regular frosting, and make edible dirt from cake crumbs. Participants will home with a fully inoculated log and sawdust inoculated with wine caps so you can enjoy your own freshly harvested mushrooms as early as later this year! We will cover equipment, supplies, and basic techniques used to make most types of cheese. Crafting Be a pollinator and wildflower hero by building a cozy home for solitary, mason bees that you can take home. In the spring, watch for female mason bees laying eggs in your hotel. You will create a series of prints from images that are produced by being transferred from one surface to another. It is painted directly on the plate, then transferred to paper for the final image.
