Week Four – 10/1: From Field to Feast – Grain Grinding & Bread Making
Children experience where food comes from—starting with the grain itself! They’ll grind real grains (like oats or wheat berries) using child-safe tools, feel the texture of straw, and explore how grains become flour.
Then, each child will help mix and knead their own mini bread dough to take home and bake with their family. This hands-on session brings the farm-to-table journey to life in a way that's fun and memorable.

Young chefs will harvest Abenaki flint corn straight from the garden, shell it, and grind it by hand—just like people have done for generations. They’ll then mix, stir, and bake their very own cornbread from scratch.

Metal embossing is the art of creating images or designs in soft metal using a stylus or other tool. You can either engrave your creations or work on the back side of the metal sheet to give it a raised look. During this studio experience, you will receive hands on demonstrations with the tools we will be using and create your own personalized metal embossed art piece. We will be using up-cycled aluminum trays and cans for this workshop.

Celebrate the season with a cozy and magical lantern walk! Children will create fall lanterns using nature’s treasures—leaves, petals, feathers, seeds, and pine needles—then parade through the forest, singing autumn songs and soaking in the beauty of fall.
Along the way, we’ll explore nature concepts like nocturnal and diurnal animals, and how fall brings shorter days as animals prepare for winter. We’ll end the morning gathered around a real campfire with warm cider and a cozy storytime.

As we stroll through the woods, we’ll collect leaves, examine bark textures, and use simple field guides to tell oaks from maples, birches from beeches, and more. Kids will create their own leaf rubbings, pressed leaves, or tree journals to take home as a reminder of their discoveries.
