Prescott Farm is excited to partner with the New Hampshire Energy Education Program (NHEEP) to provide Powering UP at Prescott Farm! A fun and interactive professional development opportunity for K-8 educators in our region. On Wednesday, February 11 from 8:30 - 3:00, come join us for a hands-on professional learning workshop at Prescott Farm. Register HERE.

NHEEP’s experiential approach will help demonstrate how energy education can empower student agency for real-world impact. We’ll explore interdisciplinary best practices and systems thinking to integrate authentic, youth-led problem-solving into your curriculum. The session will feature examples on how educators can facilitate, rather than direct, student initiatives. Attendees will experience learning from a student perspective, seeing first hand how learning unfolds. Participants will engage with a climate and energy focused anchoring phenomenon and teaching routines to experience the shift from “learning about,” to a more student-driven “figuring out," and then practice collecting data in order to identify and implement solutions.

Please be prepared to spend time outdoors during this training, bring a bagged lunch, and share with your network and other fellow educators. Though the focus will be for K-8 education, all are welcome to attend. Please note that this training is contingent upon sufficient registration numbers.

Cost: These workshops are offered at no cost to NH teachers thanks to our partnership with NHSaves, and to VT teachers thanks to generous funding. Teachers from other states may take the workshop for $175.

Bundle up and step into a snowy wonderland! Students learn the basics of snowshoeing—how to walk, turn, and climb—before setting out on an easy guided hike. Along the way, we explore winter forest clues, look for animal tracks, and learn how plants and animals survive the cold. Perfect for curious young adventurers!

Interested in growing your own medicinal herbs? Join us as we explore starting medicinal herbs from seed. Learn how to stratify, scarify, surface sow, and care for multicycle germinators while starting perennial seeds for a medicinal herb garden.

Ages: Adults and Older Youth (12 & Up)

Learn to recognize the woody plants of New Hampshire. We’ll introduce and practice a small group of woody plants learning about their identification characteristics, habitat preferences, and how they fit into the ecosystem. This week’s theme will be trees of the sugarbush.

Join us for a beginner needle felt class. We'll learn the basics of needle felting and each participant will take home a felted New Hampshire animal.

From tapping a tree to tasting delicious maple syrup, you will take an inside look into every step of the syrup making process. Our naturalists will help you identify maple trees, learn the parts of the tree and their functions, and how the maple sap is turned into syrup.

Ages: Multigenerational

Cost: $15 (Non-Members); FREE for Members

Let’s make something really special with fresh maple syrup: maple candy! Participants will work together to turn maple syrup into two styles of maple candy to enjoy. We will also taste test maple sap and the different grades of syrup.

Warm up the winter season with delicious homemade soups! In this hands-on cooking program, children chop (with kid-safe tools), stir, season, and taste as they learn how simple ingredients can come together to make a comforting meal. Students make a variety of winter soups while practicing kitchen safety, measuring, and teamwork.

Learn to use commonly found and grown herbs to make simple yet highly useful herb-infused oils and salves. In this workshop, we will use dried herbs, such as calendula, for products to take home before you are able to grow or harvest your own herbs this coming growing season!

Ages: Adults (16 & Up)

Learn to bake your own from scratch using a sourdough starter! We'll discuss how to start and keep a sourdough culture alive and use it to make breads and many other baked goodies, including a loaf of bread to finish at home and  biscuits that use the sourdough discard to enjoy at the end of the class. You will also go home with some sourdough starter to continue your sourdough baking journey.   Participants should bring a bag lunch for this 4 hour class, a container to transport their unbaked sourdough, and a small jar for their starter.
