Maple Sugaring Intensive this Saturday at Prescott Farm

After the long, cold, dark days and nights of winter, many New Englanders are eager to see signs of the coming spring. And there’s no sweeter sign of spring than the beginning of maple sugaring season.

Residents and visitors who long to learn how they can bring this delicious tradition to their own yard are invited to join Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center’s educators on Saturday, February 22nd for a Maple Sugaring Intensive.

The in-depth, half day program is 9 am – 1 pm and will teach participants everything from tree ID to the correct consistency of the finished maple syrup. The class will include classroom and outdoor activities as participants learn how to prepare a sugarhouse and trees for sugaring season.

Prescott Farm invites Intensive participants to become volunteers throughout March during the “Tap into Maple” series. Volunteers will keep the fire going in the sugarhouse, monitor sap boiling, carry sap to the sugar house, and assist educators in all aspects of the program.

Participants must be 18+ and in good physical condition (able to use snowshoes, hike uphill and lift buckets of sap). Additional Maple Sugaring Intensive program and registration information is available at prescottfarm.org, info@prescottfarm.org or 603-366-5695.
